Cardigan Welsh Corgi puppies are long-backed herders with big dog attitude. Your growth chart belongs with spine-smart habits, honest weight on short legs, and training that prevents rehearsed nipping.

Vignette Cardigan Welsh Corgi

After the projection

Cardigans are heavy for their height; a few pounds matter on long backs.

Coat fluff can hide early gain; hands-on rib checks monthly.

When growth slows, treat drift is the usual culprit.

  • Weigh every 2 to 3 weeks.
  • Monthly photos from above.
  • Log treats; they train with enthusiasm.
  • Discuss weight goals with your vet for long-backed breeds.

Reading growth on a Cardigan

Avoid repetitive high jumps off furniture; ramps help.

Herding instinct shows as ankle chasing; train alternatives early.

Teen regression is normal; simplify training.

  • Measure food by weight.
  • Stairs plan: ask your vet for growing pups.
  • Heat planning; exercise timing matters.
  • Leash skills without dragging; backs feel jerky pulls.

  1. Phase 1
8 to 12 weeks: low rider baby

    Routine, handling, gentle exposure.

    • Crate and potty rhythm.
    • Redirect heel nipping to toys; never reward chase games.
    • Feet, ears, mouth handling with food.
    • Socialization at easy distances.
    • Start markers indoors.
  2. Phase 2
    3 to 6 months: coordination + opinions

    Leash skills before adolescent strength.

    • Reward loose leash.
    • Wait at doors.
    • Continue stable-dog greetings.
    • Limit jumping off beds and sofas.
    • Mental games daily.
  3. Phase 3
6 to 14 months: teenage Corgi

    Mental work + weight honesty.

    • Daily training games and puzzles.
    • Recall on long line.
    • Watch weight hard as growth slows.
    • Early help if reactivity appears.
    • Herding-style outlets only with qualified guidance.
  4. Phase 4
14 to 24 months: young adult

    Habits mature.

    • Exercise per vet guidance.
    • Keep measuring meals.
    • Continue training; smart dogs need jobs.
    • Discuss DM and other breed topics with your vet as your pup ages.

  • Non-weight-bearing lameness or sudden reluctance to jump or climb stairs.
  • Severe vomiting or diarrhea with lethargy.
  • Back pain signs: hunched posture, yelping when lifted.
  • Eye injury.

Histoire de la race

Where Cardigan Welsh Corgis come from

Cardigan Welsh Corgis are the older of the two Corgi breeds from Wales, developed as drovers’ dogs and farm helpers with a long tail and sturdy bone.

They were bred to nip heels and think independently; both traits still appear in living rooms.

Modern Cardigans are active companions; stairs, jumping, and obesity load backs unfairly.

Fonctionnement du simulateur Cardigan Welsh Corgi

1
